I’ve been involved in sports for a long time. I played lots of different sports as a kid and teen, and I have coached both my kids when they were young and high school students for over 20 years.

High School Musical came out at a time when my kids were watching a lot of the Disney Channel, so of course, we watched it several times. In the movie, one of the lead characters plays basketball but is distracted by the idea that he might want to be in the school musical.

I’ve had the privilege of being a volunteer high school football coach for over twenty years. I really love having the opportunity to be in the lives of young men and their families in a different way than I am at church.

A unique bond connects parents and children from the beginning, but a growing relationship is nurtured over time. Regular intentional moments build lifelong closeness with your children.

About a year and a half ago, I was in a conversation with a group of staff from our church, and we were talking about how to best engage people during the height of the “stay at home” orders that so many of us were experiencing.

Volunteer small group leaders and Sunday School teachers provide a way to connect with many more parents than we, as ministry leaders, can on our own.
