Parent Ministry = Best Outreach Ministry

In this episode of Parent Ministry University we are talking about an element of your family ministry that you might not have considered.

Most of you think of working with the parents in your church as something that you can do to strengthen the ministry you’re already doing with the students you already have coming.

But what about the families that aren’t yet coming to your church?

What if the ministry you offer to the parents in your church was the exact thing that parents who don’t go to your church need the most?

Here’s a few truths to encourage you:

Parent Ministry can be your Best Outreach Ministry

Start thinking of what you offer to parents and families in the same way you understand mission trips.  When we go on a mission trip we offer hungry people food.  Why do we do that?  Because we want to earn the right to be heard.  We want to love first and then share the gospel.

What if we gave the hurting parents in our city the help and encouragement they are craving as they try to lead their family?

That’s showing great love and paving a clear path toward sharing the gospel.

To Understand Parent Ministry, just think Ministry.

It’s actually not that hard to understand Parent Ministry.

Just focus on that second word “ministry”.

You get ministry. That’s why you took this gig to minister to kids or teenagers. You know how to do ministry. So the key to ministering to parents is focusing on the ministry part of the process.

One of my favorite seminary professors was Dr. Jess Moody. He defined ministry for me in a way that I’ll never forget.

He said, “Ministry is when you find a need and meet it and find hurt and heal it through the power of Jesus Christ.”

Find a need and meet it.

Find a hurt and heal it.

THROUGH the POWER of JESUS CHRIST! (Amen!)

In our next Parent Ministry University, we are going to unpack this idea a little more and think practically about how your ministry team can start to build a family ministry that does outreach in your community.
